Natural Facial toner: Witch Hazel

As I've written about in previous posts I've been on a quest to experiment with frugal and natural toiletries like soap, shampoo, toothpaste and facial toner/ astringent; including apple cider vinegar, tea tree oil, and lemon juice. After trying multiple options, I am happy to announce that my quest is over... as far as facial toner is concerned anyway. I have been using Witch Hazel for over a month now, and am completely happy with the results. Witch Hazel costs less than $3 per bottle, and can be found at any drug store and most grocery stores. I found my bottle in Walmart, near the first aid/ medicine section, next to the Hydrogen Peroxide. An added bonus, is that Witch Hazel is a main ingredient in many of the fancy toners (like Clinique) so you can get the same active ingredient for merely a portion of the price.

The purpose of a toner is to remove any impurities left after washing, to shrink pores, and balance the PH of our skin. It’s usually applied with a cotton ball and wiped all over the face and neck. Witch Hazel is a naturally occurring purifying agent that works as a cooling astringent, anti-inflammatory, and wards off harmful bacteria.
