Natural cleanser: castille soap

I LOVE castille soap. It is made of natural ingredients, mostly of olive oil. It can be bought plain, or scented with different essential oils. It can be used to make a variety of homemade cleaning and body products. It is very concentrated, and can be used straight for tough jobs, or diluted up to 1 part castille/ 40 parts water for everyday cleaning. It cuts through grease and oil better than anything else that I've seen. I always have at least one spray bottle (as shown above) of this stuff mixed with equal parts of water around, for whatever needs may arise.

As I've recently mentioned I've been on a search to eliminate my use of commercial body products and replace them with natural, healthful, and cheaper products. Therefore about 4 weeks ago I quit using my ProActiv cleanser, and have switched to solely using the castille and water mixture as a cleanser. This has been wonderful. The castille has resulted in clearer skin than ProActiv gave me. I have replaced the use of a commercial cleanser, toner, and spot treatment with just the use of castille as my face wash... it's all I need. I use the lavender scented, which is a nice touch. I do have fairly oily skin though. For dry skin I'd recommend either wiping your body down with apple cider vinegar after using castille to soften the skin, diluting it more than I do, or adding 1 teaspoon of olive, avocado, or coconut oil to the mixture of castille and water.

Next Wednesday I'll post my recipe for homemade toothpaste, that is shown in the jar next to the spay bottle of castille soap.

This post is being linked to Works for Me Wednesday.

Hi. I just came over to your blog from Cooking During Stolen Moments. I too, love Castille soap. I use it for lots of my homemade cleaning products. I've never tried it on my face, but I also have oily skin and was wondering if you could share the recipe that you use for making your facial cleanser. Thanks so much! Have a great day!

Klutzymama,

Thanks for stopping by. What I use for my face, is just castille dilluted with water, equal parts of each... I probably put at least 1/2 cup of water and 1/2 cup of castille in my spray bottle each time I refill it, and then just shake to combine. Enjoy!

I have never seen it in liquid form, but I need to research where to find it around here. I use the bar soaps to make home=made laundry soap. but I love using it in the shower as well.
I am glad you mentioned it again because I really need to find some of it in liquid.

I am working on a post about all of the things I make from scratch. From food to cleaners. I am not at this time going to post any of the recipes, however, if my readers show enough interest and want me to put the recipes on there, I will. I wanted to ask your permission to link to this post about the facial soap. I made some up last night and just love it! I understand if you don't want me to link to you and if that is the case, I will just post the recipe and say that I found it on another blog, but I wanted to be sure to give the credit to you for it, if you were okay with that. Just let me know.
Thanks and have a great day!

I have looked at castille soap at the health food store but wasn't sure about it. Now I am, thanks to you. I've really enjoyed looking around your blog and I have an award for you over at my blog.
